§ 8-136. Duties of chief code inspection officer generally.

The chief code inspection officer shall have direct supervision of all gas installations
in the city. He shall inspect all piping for natural or artificial gas that may be
hereafter installed, repaired or altered in any building in the city. He shall give
general information and advice as to the meaning and requirements of this article
and the rules and regulations governing all cases of violations, or attempted violations,
thereof on the part of the gas fitters, owner or agent, and shall seek the conviction
of the offenders. He shall issue all certificates of registration, keep a record of
all registered gas fitters, keep a record of all inspections of gas piping made by
him, and when the gas piping in any building shall be satisfactorily completed and
tested, he shall issue to the party doing the work a certificate stating that the
same is lawfully and properly done according to this article. He shall issue all permits
for gas pipe installations. He is hereby authorized to condemn any gas installation
that is unsafe and not in compliance with this article.
