§ 8-158. Certificates.

  • (a)

    No person shall engage in or work in the business of gas fitting, either as a master gas fitter or as a journeyman gas fitter, in the city until such person has been examined and found qualified and competent to engage in such business and shall have been granted a certificate. A resident or owner may install gas appliances, piping, fittings and appurtenances within his own home, shop, garage or other structure on his own premises without obtaining such certificate, but a permit must be secured and such work shall be inspected and approved by the building official and applicable inspection fees paid. Any such gas certificate issued by the board of examiners shall expire on December 31 of each year and may be renewed without reexamination upon recommendation of the board and no proof having been presented that the holder is not entitled to renewal.

    (b)

    Certificates which are not renewed by December 31 of the current year will become void.
