§ 6-36. Rabies vaccination and license required.

  • It shall be unlawful for any person to keep or harbor any dog or cat over six months of age within the City of Manhattan, Kansas, unless such dog or cat is vaccinated and licensed as provided herein.

    (a)

    Separate offenses. Keeping or harboring a dog or cat over six months of age without a license shall be a separate offense from keeping or harboring a dog or cat over six months of age without an anti-rabies vaccination still in effect.

    (b)

    Exceptions. The provisions of this division do not apply to animals owned by a licensed research facility, or held in a veterinary medical facility or government operated or licensed animal shelter nor to animals owned by nonresidents of the city which are maintained within the city for less than 60 consecutive days.

    (c)

    Violations. Those found to be in violation of this section shall pay a minimum fine of $25.00 for a first offense, $100.00 for a second offense, and $500.00 for a third offense.
