§ 31-33. Parking and standing of school buses.

  • (a)

    It is unlawful for any person to cause, allow, permit or suffer any school bus registered in the name of or owned or operated by such person to be parked upon any street in any business district at any place other than at a bus stop zone or a school bus stop zone.

    (b)

    School bus stop zones for the loading or unloading of school bus passengers are hereby designated and established along the following streets and highways of the city:

    Browning Avenue

    The east side of Browning Avenue between a point 320 feet south of the centerline of Hobbs Drive at the intersection of Hobbs Drive and the east side of Browning Avenue and a point 520 feet south of said centerline of Hobbs Drive.

    Canfield Drive

    The east side of Canfield Drive beginning at the north back-of-curb of Anderson Avenue and a point north 250 feet.

    Griffith Drive

    The north side of Griffith Drive between the eastern intersection of Griffith Drive and Griffith Terrace and the western intersection of Griffith Drive and Griffith Terrace.

    Westbaker Street

    The west side of Westbaker Street between a point 350 feet south of the south back-of-curb of the intersection of the west side of Westbaker Street and Churchill Street and a point 550 feet south of said south back-of-curb of Churchill Street.

    8 th Street

    The east side of 8 th Street between a point 50 feet south of the centerline of Vattier Street at the intersection of Vattier Street and the east side of 8 th Street and a point 250 feet south of said centerline of Vattier Street.

    9 th Street

    The west side of 9 th Street between Poyntz Avenue and Pierre Street.

    10 th Street

    The east side of 10 th Street between Poyntz Avenue and Pierre Street.

    (c)

    It is unlawful for any person to cause, allow, permit or suffer any school bus registered in the name of or owned or operated by such person to be stopped, stood or parked within a school bus stop zone except for the purpose of loading or unloading the school bus and then only for such length of time as is reasonably necessary to load or unload the school bus which shall not under any circumstances exceed 45 minutes. It is unlawful for any person to cause, allow, permit or suffer any vehicle registered in the name of or owned or operated by such person that is not a school bus to be stopped, stood or parked within a school bus stop zone except for the purpose of immediate loading or unloading of passengers. The city traffic engineer shall mark school bus stop zones with appropriate signs and other indicators.
