§ 10-10. Organization; by-laws.

  • The human rights board shall elect one of its members as chairperson, who shall preside at all meetings of the board and perform all the normal duties and functions of the chairperson. The mayor shall convene the first meeting of the board and conduct the election of the chairperson. The board shall elect, in the same manner, one of its members a vice-chairperson who shall act as chairperson during the absence or incapacity of the chairperson and, when so acting, the member so designated shall have and perform all the duties and functions of the chairperson of the board. The chairperson or vice-chairperson may resign from office without resigning from the board. In such event, the board shall elect another member as a replacement for the unexpired term. The term of office of each chairperson and vice-chairperson shall be for one year, and no person shall serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office, unless such election to the immediately subsequent term is made by members of the board by unanimous vote. The board shall adopt by-laws as necessary for the conduct of the board, subject to approval by the governing body.
